Introduction
In this guide, we're going to explore the Dymension testnet & modular blockchains as well as how we can interact with them to position ourselves for a potential future airdrop!
Dymension operates as a network comprising swiftly deployable modular blockchains known as RollApps. These RollApps consist of two primary services: client and server. The server, serving as the application side, allows RollApp deployers to integrate tailored business logic along with pre-existing modules. Meanwhile, the client component, called dymint, functions as an alternative to Tendermint. It manages block production, propagates peer messages, and handles inter-layer networking.
Step 1
To begin, let's go to the Dymension Platform & connect our wallet.
For this step, we will be using Keplr wallet.
Once your wallet is connected you should see your "DYM" wallet address in the top-right corner, the address should start with "dym".
We will be using this address to claim some test tokens in the next step.
Step 2
Next, let's go ahead & request the test tokens!
To do this, go to the official Dymension Discord & get verified.
Once verified, you can go to the "intro-lounge" channel and introduce yourself, or just ask to join the community.
Once you have access to all channels, go to the "froopyland-faucet" channel and type: $request your_address_here, but make sure to change "your_address_here" with your own DYM address.
You should see the DYM tokens arrive in your Keplr wallet shortly.
Step 3
Now that we have some test tokens, let's begin interacting with some different RollApps!
- Go back to Dymension & select one of the listed RollApps. (For this guide, I will choose Hoa because it uses the DYM token)
- Now select "Deposit Funds", input an amount you want to deposit & hit "Transfer".
This will bridge the tokens to your MetaMask wallet.
Shortly after the deposit is complete, we can click "Withdraw Funds" to withdraw the DYM tokens back to our Keplr wallet.
Step 4
Now let's take a look at "Jupiter" & the token, "GAS".
- First, let's claim some GAS tokens to our MetaMask wallet here: faucet.jupiternft.xyz
You should receive 100 GAS tokens shortly.
- Then we can head over to swap.jupiternft.xyz/#/swap & connect our MetaMask wallet.
- Switch network in MetaMask to "Jupiter".
- Now we can perform some Swaps from GAS to any other token.
If you can't find the token in MetaMask, then you should go to the Jupiter project & click "Withdraw Funds" this will bring up the option to add Jupiter & GAS to MetaMask.
Step 5
Now let's take a look at "aazifiri" & its token "IRI".
- First, we need to claim some IRI tokens here: rollapp-faucet.vercel.app
You should receive 5 IRI tokens in your MetaMask shortly.
- We can then perform a Withdrawal from aazifiri to Dymension Froopyland
- We should do several Withdrawals & Deposits for more network interaction and to gain a better understanding of how the platform functions.
If you can't find the token in MetaMask, then you should go to the aazifiri project & click "Withdraw Funds" this will bring up the option to add the token to MetaMask.
Step 6
Now that we have some IRI test tokens, let's play this short game: rollape.quest
To play, we need to connect our MetaMask wallet & click "Attack", each attack will cost a tiny amount of IRI so each time we attack we'll need to confirm the transaction using our MetaMask wallet, but we can speed up this process by performing "combos" by spamming the Attack button, this will cause a build-up of pending transactions that we can easily confirm.
Once you've defeated the Dragon you can go ahead and click "Mint NFT".
